Vocal Preservation on Long Island

Is your voice letting you down? Do you think you might need vocal training?

Our Voice Care Center is dedicated to the total care of the professional voice. Our mission: to help people create excellent voices: those who have lost their normal voice and want to regain it, those who want to take a bland or unpleasant voice and make it pleasing and effective, or those who want to take an ordinary voice and make it extraordinary.

We do this through a customized program of voice, breathing, and relaxation techniques and exercises, based on the results of an initial voice evaluation. Our clients are treated holistically; including posture/alignment, reduction of muscle tension and vocal tension, tone placement and production, pitch control, intonation/word stress, and body language, as well as diet and anti-reflux regimens, hydration, vocal abuse reduction, vocal hygiene, and stress reduction… everything that contributes to the creation of an excellent voice. We also bring these customized components to our Total Singing Voice Program, through which we help singers achieve excellent voices through the development of a healthy dependable vocal technique. If you seek Vocal Preservation on Long Island, contact Professional Voice Care Center today!

In our new blog, we will present practical and informative posts on everything from how to have the voice quality you’ve always wanted, to how to break patterns of poor posture. We will talk about the alignment of the head, neck, and shoulders; how to reduce voice-damaging reflux; how to create a complete hydration program and how to achieve an open relaxed throat for singing and speaking, including our “Voice Box Massage” technique that has become so popular!

We’ll interview some of our clients on their journeys through the voice therapy or voice training process, and see how they achieved their results. We’ll try to be very hands-on and present techniques that you can try TODAY! If you want to sing better in the shower, or aspire to be on the Broadway stage….give your next speech with confidence and presence….get through the work day and still have a voice….you’ll want to check back with us frequently. Use our simple but effective techniques and tips and you’ll no longer have to feel that your voice holds you back personally or professionally.  If you seek Vocal Preservation on Long Island, contact Professional Voice Care Center today!

Types of Vocal Injuries

There are several ways that you can injure your vocal cords when overdoing it or singing incorrectly. Some of the most

common injuries include:

What Causes Vocal Injury?

Over-singing, straining, or singing incorrectly can cause injury to your vocal cords.  This sometimes can result in several days of resting or potentially something even greater, such as surgery, or the recommendation to stop singing altogether. Some may think they don’t need a vocal coach or that their voice is already the best it can be, however, this is a huge mistake. A professional vocal coach can teach you the best methods for utilizing your voice, can monitor the general well-being of your vocal cords and can instruct you on ways to not only keep your voice healthy but to improve sound and talent.  If you are searching for Vocal Preservation on Long Island then Pro Voice Care is the place for you!

Your voice is one of your strongest and most distinguishing assets, which is why it is essential to attend to it both before and after use. Your unique voice is created through the use of several different organs and muscles; and just like with other muscles, you will need to train them and take care of them in order to create the most desirable results. Some people may be under the impression that taking singing or voice lessons are a waste of time, but what you may not know is that it’s not just about improving the sound of your voice, but the health of all the wonderful parts of you that make your voice possible! At Pro Voice Care, we offer Vocal Preservation on Long Island, and our goal is to help create and restore your voice.

What is Vocal Preservation on Long Island?

Now you may be thinking, I’m not even a singer. I don’t need to train my voice or learn how to sing. Fortunately, we are not just about singing, and you do not need to be a professional singer to take voice lessons with us. Our Vocal Preservation on Long Island with Pro Voice Care is about YOU and how to use your voice effectively throughout your life. While singing, you are using specific muscles like your diaphragm and abdominals, leading to the strengthening and toning of your core muscles. Singing helps you enhance your stamina and breathing techniques, as well as your speaking voice! Anyone can be a singer, whether professionally or casually, and whether we admit it, most of us are singing at some point in our lives. Some may sing in the shower with no one listening or in the car belting out a dramatic tune, while others may be in a school choir or a band. Our lessons are customized to you and your interests and involve a highly qualified vocal coach helping you change your vocal habits.

At our lessons, you can expect our coach to teach you how to:

Who is Voice Therapy For?

Voice problems occur when vocal pitch, loudness, and/or quality are inadequate or inappropriate for communication. Often these problems are accompanied by pain or discomfort, vocal fatigue, vocal strain, or increased effort to produce voice, during or after speaking or singing. Causes and contributing factors include vocal abuse (e.g. yelling, speaking over noise or across a distance), misuse (e.g. using an excessively deep voice pitch), poor breath support patterns, dehydration, allergies, post-nasal drip, thyroid problems, stress, and laryngopharyngeal reflux (stomach acid backing up into the larynx).  If you are searching for Vocal Preservation on Long Island then Pro Voice Care is the place for you!

Signs of a voice problem can include hoarseness lasting more than two weeks, breathiness, frequent throat clearing, voice breaks, change in speaking pitch, loss of high singing range, and/or loss of vocal projection. Conditions relating to voice problems include swollen or thickened vocal folds (vocal cords), varices (swollen blood vessels), vocal fold hemorrhage, and lesions on the vocal folds such as nodules (“nodes”), polyps, cysts, or contact ulcers. Other conditions include paresis (weakness) or paralysis of the vocal folds, and functional dysphonia, i.e., the structure of the vocal folds is normal, but the muscles of the voice mechanism are being used with too much, or too little, force, resulting in voice problems.  If you are searching for Vocal Preservation on Long Island then Pro Voice Care is the place for you!

Our Voice Therapy Program

At the Professional Voice Care Center, a licensed speech-voice pathologist evaluates your vocal function and designs an individualized program of vocal rehabilitation therapy, vocal hygiene and vocal abuse reduction to treat your voice problem. We can also help you adhere to an anti-reflux regimen of diet and lifestyle changes if needed. The practice of effective techniques is reinforced through audio feedback, as well as computerized feedback. We create a customized home practice program and provide you with printed or CD-recorded therapy exercises. (You can even record the therapy exercises on your smartphone or tablet). Additionally, the speech pathologist works closely with your ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physician on your personalized voice treatment plan.  If you are searching for Vocal Preservation on Long Island then Pro Voice Care is the place for you!
